Title
Multifunctional optical network study in the CESNET infrastructure
Code
789/2026
Summary
The proposed project is devoted to the very perspective direction of next generation optical networks XGS-PON (ITU-T G.987/ G.9807) or 50Gb-PON (ITU-T G.9804.1) development in coexistence with GPON (ITU-T G.984) with regards to implementation of sensorial systems into the network infrastructure. This unique solution is also reflected in ideas for future critical infrastructure resilience in response to security challenges. The EU and all data network administrators are responding to this. The dual capabilities of optical infrastructures offer new opportunities for both optical infrastructure administrators and end customers in terms of new services and functionalities. For security forces, a new source of information and sensor data that can be used to monitor various targets or detect anomalies that could potentially affect the security of a specific perimeter. The real monitoring and sensing of selected physical effects and data transmission influenced by external phenomena will be the tasks of this study including advanced performance tests (RFC6349/ITU-T 156sam) with the aim to prove proposed concept functionality. An integral part of the project is also the plan to implement a sensor for detection of acoustic vibrations. Other secondary outputs include deepening cooperation between the participating organizations (in the form of publications and preparation of joint project plans).
