The bachelor's thesis is one of the first major publications produced by university students. The thesis is evaluated by the supervisor and the opponent. It is the ticket to the bachelor's degree. It can also serve as a basis for future careers, and students can develop this work further in theses and dissertations.
At the beginning of the summer semester of the second year, students choose the topic of their bachelor thesis published in the EDISON system. They first contact the supervisor of the chosen bachelor thesis, meet with him/her and discuss the assignment. They then submit the topic in the EDISON system. Students can come to the supervisor of their field of study with a proposal for their own bachelor thesis topic, who will assess it and, if necessary, recommend a suitable supervisor. From this point on, it is advisable to work actively on the implementation of the thesis and to communicate with the thesis supervisor.
During the winter semester of the third year (usually in November), they will pick up the original bachelor's thesis assignment from the Department of Cybernetics and Biomedical Engineering secretariat. This assignment must be inserted officially as the second sheet of the bachelor thesis. There are two compulsory courses associated with the Bachelor's thesis, namely Bachelor's Project I (or Bachelor's Seminar I) in the winter semester and Bachelor's Project II (or Bachelor's Seminar II) in the summer semester. These courses are completed with credits awarded by the supervisor of the Bachelor's thesis. The award of credit is governed by the requirements for awarding credit published in the course descriptions in the EDISON system.
Bachelor theses must be uploaded to the IS no later than the deadline specified on the original assignment of the Bachelor thesis. The bachelor thesis is also submitted printed and bound in hardcover to the supervisor of the bachelor thesis. The two versions of the bachelor thesis - the electronic and the printed version - must be identical.
The student must have all courses in his/her OSP in a status of COMPLETED by the deadline listed in the academic year schedule. Only the credits from these courses are counted in the degree audit and for the calculation of the merit scholarship. The student must earn a total of 180 credits for the degree. The student must complete all enrolled courses (including electives) or he/she will not be admitted to the CSP, even if the number of credits is sufficient.
Students register for the HSS in the IS by the deadline defined in the timetable of the respective academic year. The ACEs take place only in May/June (regular term) and then in August (make-up term, only for those students who failed the regular term in May). Only those students who have registered for the CAP, have their bachelor thesis in the status of PASSED, have successfully passed the study check and verified the data in the IS will be registered for the CAP committee.
Students who have submitted an online application for the follow-up Master's degree and have it registered in their status are required to attend the registration of winter and summer semester courses for the next academic year, which will take place on the dates set in the academic year schedule. Students enroll in required electives and then select from the electives to earn at least 60 credits from all enrolled courses for the academic year (more credits may be enrolled, but not more than 70 credits). Required courses are automatically enrolled. Choose your courses responsibly, as approval becomes binding and you must complete all courses enrolled in.
If students fail to meet the requirements of the final examination, they must submit a written request to the study department for a repeat of the year or an extension of the examination period or termination of studies by the deadline set in the schedule of the relevant academic year. A student may repeat the same year only once.
Students who will repeat the final year and have already enrolled in any course twice must submit a request for a third enrolment of the course (maximum of two courses) to the study department. Courses that are not successfully completed in a given year will automatically carry over to the new academic year after proper enrollment in the following academic year. Application forms can be found at https://www.fei.vsb.cz/cs/o-fakulte/uredni-deska/formulare/formulare-ke-studiu/.
Students who have not submitted their bachelor's thesis by the given deadline will submit it in the repeated year according to the academic year schedule. During the winter semester of the following academic year, students can collect a new original assignment (with a new submission date for the DP) from the departmental secretariat. Students who are no longer able to repeat the final year and have not submitted their bachelor's thesis by the given deadline must submit a request for an extension of the examination period to the study department. These students must submit the undergraduate thesis by the end of the semester and have all courses in a PASSED status on the date of the degree audit. They will not participate in the CAP until the following academic year in May/June.
Electronic enrolment in the repeated year
Enrolment will take place in the 1st week of September. Your verification of your data in IS Edison is a prerequisite for electronic enrolment in the repeat year. Instructions for this verification will be emailed after verification. You must complete the data verification no later than the deadline listed in the schedule for that academic year.
