Cyber Olympics attracted dozens of young engineers

Primary and secondary school pupils tested their knowledge and skills at the traditional Cyber Olympiad, which took place at theVSB-TUO as part of the Improve Your Technology Day. 60 pupils and students took part in the competition.

Competitive teams of three solved tasks in the field of programming, robotics and electronics. The teams were divided by age into three categories. Younger primary school students built programs in Scratch, worked with LEGO WeDo2, Mindstorm EV3 and Spike robotic kits, built electrical circuits with BOFFIN and programmed INTELLINO trains. In addition to Scratch, older students worked with Arduino, built robots and mazes from LEGO sets, and learned how to solder and assemble parts. High school students programmed in C# and Python, wired circuits with Arduino, competed in robotics challenges and measured electrical quantities.
"We are trying to increase the interest of pupils and students in technical fields. We organise summer schools in the holidays, and throughout the year we also run clubs for children as young as six years old, where we focus on cybernetics, programming or robotics. The participants of our clubs then participate in prestigious competitions, including international ones, where they often celebrate success," recalled Zdeněk Macháček from the Department of Cybernetics and Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
VSB - TUO has long been dedicated to young talents within the framework of JUNIOR UNIVERSITY, which enables primary school pupils and secondary school students to deepen their interest in technical education.
