Research and development at the FEECS embraces all areas of electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, and physics. There are 28 research groups working at the FEECS that cover particular research areas at the 8 departments of the faculty (see research groups). Academic and researcher staff members publish their work in the world’s best scientific journals. Approximately 80 journal articles are published annually by FEECS's researchers. About 20 of them are published in journals ranked in the top quarter of scientific journals in their respective fields. The number of patents granted each year to FEECS's staff is around 5, some of which are licensed. Academic staff members are principal investigators or co-principal investigator of a number of national (Czech Science Foundation - GAČR, Technology Agency of the Czech Republic - TAČR) and international projects (FP7, H2020), see research projects. The total volume of funding received through project activities is around CZK 60 million every year. The faculty also solves research tasks in cooperation with industry. The amount of income through direct contracts with industry is about CZK 12 million annually.
