FEI VŠB-TUO Welcomed Experts from the U.S. for a Discussion on the Use of AI in Healthcare

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VŠB–TUO hosted a professional meeting focused on current trends in artificial intelligence in healthcare and opportunities for further Czech-American cooperation. The day before, meetings were also held at the VŠB–TUO Rector’s Office, where the university rector welcomed the international guests together with representatives from the Department of International Cooperation and Services.
FEI VŠB-TUO Welcomed Experts from the U.S. for a Discussion on the Use of AI in Healthcare

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VŠB-TUO, American experts Nicoleta Economou-Zavlanos and Michael M. Zavlanos, representatives of the U.S. Embassy Dale Kreisher and Barbora Navrátilová, as well as representatives of the University of Ostrava, Ostrava University Hospital, and the Czech Ministry of Health. The discussion provided an opportunity to share experiences across the academic, healthcare, and public sectors.
The discussion focused on current challenges related to the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Participants discussed, for example, governance and accountability for AI deployment in hospitals, the safety of generative artificial intelligence, the quality of healthcare data, mitigating algorithmic bias, and how to effectively bridge the gap between academic research and clinical practice. Projects being carried out at the FEI VŠB-TUO focused on the integration of healthcare and artificial intelligence were also presented, including the Healthcare 4.0 Challenge, which was launched at the faculty.
The meeting confirmed a shared interest in developing international cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence and healthcare technologies. Participants also discussed opportunities for future joint projects, funding for international exchanges, and other activities that will support the integration of cutting-edge research with practice.
