"I never expected my thesis to receive this kind of recognition. I'm very happy about it because it confirms that the work was worthwhile," says Petr Kasala.
The thesis focuses on the design and implementation of a medium-power voltage inverter intended primarily for applications in the automotive and railway industries. Developed in cooperation with onsemi, the device will be used for testing semiconductor power modules while also serving as a reference design for future development.
In his thesis, Petr describes the operating principles of a three-phase voltage inverter and the design of its key components, including the power electronics, control and measurement circuits, and the power supply system. The work also covers the implementation and validation of the complete device, which was successfully tested in practice.
"The result of the thesis is a high-quality design of a testing device whose scope and level of execution significantly exceed the standard expected of a master's thesis. Several individual parts of the project could, with further development, easily serve as independent thesis topics," says the thesis supervisor, Jan Strossa.
Petr Kasala plans to continue building on the results of his master's thesis in his doctoral studies.
"I would like to focus on the control of AC motors, which is closely related to voltage inverters. Exploring new and still largely uncharted areas is what motivated me to continue with doctoral studies," he says.
