FEI contributes to the development of post-quantum security for IoT devices in critical infrastructure

How can secure data transmission from IoT devices be ensured in a future where current cryptographic methods may be threatened by advances in quantum computing? This is the challenge addressed by the PQSmartE2E project, a collaboration between the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava and Solidus Tech.
FEI contributes to the development of post-quantum security for IoT devices in critical infrastructure

The project Innovative Implementation of Post-Quantum Security for IoT and LPWAN Devices in Critical Infrastructure (PQSmartE2E) focuses on securing IoT devices, such as smart meters and sensors that collect data and communicate via low-power networks. These devices are particularly relevant to the water and energy sectors, where reliable operation and the protection of transmitted data are essential.

“The aim of the project is to develop and validate a technology that will enable secure long-term data collection and transmission from IoT devices even in the era of quantum computing. At the same time, the solution must maintain low energy consumption and ensure long battery life for battery-powered devices,” explains Professor Miroslav Vozňák from FEI.

The project will deliver a functional prototype of a smart metering device and a crypto-agile proxy. The proposed technologies will subsequently be validated in a real-world critical infrastructure environment.

The project is implemented under the Operational Programme Technologies and Applications for Competitiveness, Applications – Call IV – DEEP TECH, and is co-funded by the European Union.
