The summer school was primarily organised by Aix-Marseille Université, Polytech Marseille, one of France’s largest universities. Other participants included students and academic staff from Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and Politécnico de Lisboa – Lisbon School of Engineering, as well as university representatives from Benin.

Throughout the semester, students worked online in international teams on a range of projects, including Compact and Efficient Wind Turbine, Smart Photovoltaics and Greening Buildings. At the end of August, they gathered for a joint ESEE week at Polytech Marseille, where they finalised their prototypes, reviewed their projects, and prepared presentations and posters. The programme concluded with the final project presentations and defences.

“Throughout the semester, our department staff supported the students as mentors and also served on the evaluation committee in France. Our students were among the strongest in terms of technical knowledge and truly excelled when defending their work in English. They thoroughly deserved the five ECTS credits they earned for their outstanding performance,” said Radomír Goňo, Head of the Department of Electrical Power Engineering.

The visit to France also included a technical excursion to the ITER research centre, home to one of the most ambitious international energy projects of our time. The experimental fusion reactor is intended to advance research into the potential use of nuclear fusion as a future energy source.

The next edition of the European Summer School for Environment and Sustainable Energy will be organised by the Department of Electrical Power Engineering at FEI, VSB–TUO. Students from the participating universities will once again collaborate on international projects. At the end of the summer, they will meet in Ostrava to finalise and present their results.

The department has secured support for organising the summer school through the Erasmus+ programme under the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP). The funding will help facilitate the mobility of international participants and support the delivery of the entire programme.
