Summary
This project focuses on the design and development of a magneto-optic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor for advanced biomolecule detection and neuron-related studies. The proposed system integrates plasmonic metals, magneto-optic materials (such as YIG, Fe-based layers, and cerium-doped garnets), and selected 2D materials to enhance field confinement, sensitivity, and detection limits. Using numerical modelling based on the Transfer Matrix Method, the project investigates electromagnetic field distribution, plasmon–magneto-optic coupling, and the influence of parameters such as wavelength, temperature, magnetic field strength, and layer thickness. The sensor will be designed in both prism and fiber-optic configurations, enabling compact, real-time biosensing for medical diagnostics. The experimental phase includes material synthesis, thin-film deposition, sensor fabrication, and characterization of optical and magneto-optical responses. The aim is to develop a highly sensitive, low-cost, and portable biosensing platform capable of detecting biomarkers at very low concentrations for clinical and point-of-care applications.
