Summary
Converters operating with so called soft switching are becoming more and more popular thanks to their characteristic advantages, primarily the decreased losses. Nowadays, frequency converters with soft switching represent one of the most complex application of soft switching. These converters generally bring significant increase of effectiveness, in systems of electric AC drives they greatly suppress the problems of electromagnetic compatibility which occur as a result of high speed switching of modem semiconductor switches in standard hard switching converters of the voltage type. Disadvantage of converters with soft switching is higher circuit complexity of the power section and consequently the higher number of semiconductor switches and high quality passive elements which means higher price. For proper assessment of practical use of soft switching converters, either resonant or quasiresonant converters, is necessary to perform a study of properties of the entire system - soft switching
