Summary
The progress in computers and numerical methods supports modelling and simulation of complex electrotechnical devices. The models are based on the Maxwell's equations the simulations of which lead to linear systems of up to a million of unknowns that can be solved on a usual computer in the time nearly proportional to the number of unknowns. The algorithms are based on a multi-level discretization of the computational domain and on its adaptive refinement. In this project we will treat with optimalgeomet ry design of electrotechnical devices, based on minimization of a given criterion over a set of admissible parameters. These problems are difficult, since a solution to the Maxwell's equations is involved in the criterion evaluation. Here, thedesign para meters describe the geometry, i.e., the number and structure of its separated components, so called topology, and the shapes of these components. Then, modern optimization algorithms aims at shortening the computational time.
