Department of Applied Mathematics
was established April 1st 1992 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava with the objective to provide mathematical courses in engineering study programmes. The priority was and is to provide teaching of mathematics at our faculty. At the same time we offer advanced courses in different fields of modern applied mathematics for the entire university, in particular in doctoral studies.
Moreover, the goal was to establish a department with its own study programme to support research and training highly qualified experts in engineering domains.
Research topics
Research focused within three main research groups
- Numerical mathematics and HPC (High Performance Computing),
- Applied probability and statistics,
- Mathematical analysis and discrete mathematics.
