    Bachelor thesis

The student can realize the bachelor thesis in the following ways:
    • selecting a topic in IS Edison according to the relevant field and creating your own work according to the relevant assignment and requirements
    • in the form of professional practice (not valid for students in the combined form of study)
Procedure for topic selection in IS Edison:
    • After logging into Edison, select the Final Thesis menu.
    • Then, in the form for setting up the filtering, select the correct field of study and the year that corresponds to the last year of your studies. Alternatively, you can refine the filtering using additional parameters.
    • Choose a topic that is free (no students are registered for the topic yet) and sign up for it. Afterwards, it is necessary to contact the teacher who wrote the topic and agree on the further procedure or clarify the assignment. Simply registering for a topic in the system does not guarantee the actual implementation of the topic; an agreement with a possible future supervisor is always necessary.

Information on the bachelor thesis itself

    State Final Examination

    • June date of the SFE: 3. - 7. 6.2024
    • Corrective date of the SFE: - 5. - 9. 8. 2024
The state final examination may be taken by a student who has fulfilled all the study requirements set out in the study plan of the relevant study programme by the final examination date. It is not possible to take the state final examination separately from the defense of the Bachelor's thesis (the defense is part of the thesis). The dean shall designate an alternative state final examination for a student if the student fails to appear for the state final examination or its repeat on the designated date, his/her absence has been duly excused in writing within five days and the excuse has been accepted by the dean. According to the Study and Examination Regulations for Studies in Bachelor's Degree Programmes at VŠB-TUO, a student has the right to repeat the state final examination or any part of it only once.A data projector and a laptop (common presentation software with Windows operating system) are available for the bachelor thesis defense. During the defense of the bachelor thesis, the student will present in particular the aim of the thesis, a brief outline of the solution, and an evaluation of the results achieved.Students should send their presentations to the recorder of the relevant state examination committee at least 3 days before the day of the SFE.
    1. Students will participate in the SFE according to the timetable that is set up for each committee and day. The schedule is available in the Edison system prior to the CAP.
    2. The SFE lasts 30 minutes and consists of two parts. First, the recorder introduces the student to the state examination committee. This is followed by the defense of the bachelor's thesis, which lasts approximately fifteen minutes and proceeds as follows
      1. The student will present the results of his/her bachelor thesis or internship in ten minutes.
      2. The recorder will summarize the evaluation of the supervisor and the opponent of the bachelor thesis, or a consultant from practice.
      3. Then the student will answer questions from the members of the state examination committee concerning the bachelor thesis or practice.
    3. The defense is followed by an examination of two compulsory SZZ subjects from the announced subject areas:
Areas for the field of Computer Science.
The examination lasts approximately fifteen minutes and its course is as follows:
      1. The student will receive one question from each of the two compulsory subjects (Computer Science and Theoretical Foundations of Computer Science).
      2. Immediately afterwards, the student answers the questions in the order of his/her choice. Members of the State Examination Committee may ask additional questions during the examination.
    4. The committee will notify the students of the results of the CAP at the end of the morning and afternoon sessions at the latest.
  2. The course of the defense and the state final examination
  3. Demonstration of applications, their functionality, etc. is NOT part of the bachelor thesis defense, as this evaluation is the responsibility of the supervisor and the opponent of the bachelor thesis. The defense also does not include a repetition of the theoretical background of the thesis (unless the theoretical output is the aim of the thesis).
