The award ceremony of the NextGen City: Smart City Not Just for Generation Z competition took place on 3 December at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of VSB–Technical University of Ostrava. Students from secondary schools and universities across the Czech Republic and abroad took part, and their projects impressed not only with creativity but also with real potential for practical use.
A research team from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VSB-TUO has developed and installed a new wireless monitoring system capable of long-term temperature tracking inside mine dumps. The technology enables early detection of hazardous thermal processes and faster intervention in case of renewed ignition.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava has signed a memorandum of cooperation with VR Life. Together, they want to develop research, education, and applications in the field of virtual reality (VR), particularly in relation to monitoring and reducing stress in users exposed to extreme conditions, such as astronauts.
On the occasion of the national holiday, a ceremonial meeting of the Scientific Council was held at VŠB-TUO, during which doctoral graduates were promoted and new associate professors of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science were introduced.

At the turn of spring and summer 2016, ESPORT VSB-TUO OSTRAVA LEAGUE was established as an active association that focuses on the phenomenon of computer games and the association of people who are active in this community. One of the secondary goals is also the effort to eradicate the stereotypical negative opinion of computer games.
