Since September 1, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VSB-TUO has been headed by Radek Martinek, who previously served as Vice-Dean for Science and Research. He takes on this role building on the experience gained during his four years in the faculty’s senior management.
Artificial intelligence helps detect road surface defects faster and more accurately than existing methods. The Signal Lab team from the FEECS at VŠB-TUO, in cooperation with the company Futtec, has successfully completed the first phase of the project Testing AI-Supported Detection and Analysis of Surface Defects for Mobile Platforms. The project demonstrates that combining neural networks, computer vision, and mobile platforms can fundamentally change the way roads are maintained.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VSB–TUO is, for the first time, designating selected secondary schools as its partner schools. In doing so, it strengthens long-term partnerships and support for talented students.
Kateřina Ondrušová, a third-year student of Applied Physics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, VŠB-TUO, took part last year in the ČEZ Group’s Summer University at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant. The program, which ranks among the most popular student internships in the field of energy, offered her not only a unique insight into the functioning of the power plant, but also the opportunity to obtain an operator’s scholarship.
